Digital X will issue 10,078,614 new shares at 4,961 won each, exclusively to Mirae Asset Consulting, which already controls 97.15% of the company. Unlike the initial acquisition costs, which paid out existing shareholders, this capital injection flows directly into the operator's balance sheet to bolster management funding. The board approved the transaction on August 12, with the final payment slated for August 27.
The infusion arrives as Digital X navigates a challenging financial landscape. Despite reporting revenue growth in 2025, the exchange recorded a 15.4 billion won operating loss. These figures underscore the difficulty of competing in a South Korean market heavily dominated by Upbit and Bithumb, where Korbit maintains a minor 0.5% market share. By strengthening the firm's capital structure, Mirae Asset looks to provide breathing room for its broader "Mirae Asset 3.0" strategy, which focuses on tokenization and the integration of traditional financial products with digital assets.
While the corporate entity rebranded from Korbit Co. to Digital X Co. on August 11, the consumer-facing exchange brand remains unchanged for now. This investment aligns with a wider trend of major South Korean financial institutions securing positions in the crypto sector, following similar moves by Korea Investment & Securities and Samsung affiliates. For Mirae Asset, the immediate priority is stabilizing the operation before launching the specialized services planned for its new digital assets division.
